This feature was enabled as part of PlayStation 5's September System Software update, which was made available to all system owners yesterday. In an email this morning, Samsung representatives contacted us to confirm that their 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD (when used with a compatible heatsink) met all of Sony's hardware requirements to support the PlayStation 5's expandable storage feature. Samsung's 980 PRO SSD is an excellent PCIe 4.0 SSD option for PC and console gamers, offering users sequential read speeds as high as 7,000 MB/s and high levels of general SSD performance thanks to the drive's in-house Elpis controller and the company's latest 3D V-NAND flash chips. Bottom line my old Desktop is now a little faster and my Laptop is significantly faster. Use the downloadable Samsung software and purchase a USB 3 adapter, as long as you have a USB 3 port. My "Cons" comments are not really cons, they are the learning process I experienced. Overall Review: Overall the SSD's are very good so far. All that being said, my experience should help others solve the 99% issue. Bottom line, Samsung software, USB 3 adapter and patience are the keys to success. My second attempt I used the Samsung software and it works very well. Additionally, I used a regular cloning software for the first desktop attempt. I noted several people said they were stuck at 99%, my patience paid off. As long as the "time clock"on the Samsung software is ticking, just wait. I just had to wait little longer to get past the 99% point, approximately 10-15 minutes.
That's when I bought the second one and attempted cloning again on the Desktop. My Laptop did the same thing, but in a short time it completed to 100%. (saved some money there)Ĭons: On my first attempt, my desktop was stuck at 99% when I first attempted the cloning. Obviously, I don't need any external storage devices. I think the speed differential between the two computers is due to the excessive App's on my desktop. My desktop's speed improved to at least 2 times faster. That significantly extended the life of it. What a difference, hence the "WOW" factor. It now performs at least 3-4 times faster. It was a really good touch for Samsung to include downloadable software link. I used the two Samsung apps for data Migration transfer and the Magician for monitoring.
